StartBank Africa Fund, an Africa-focused venture capital fund, has secured a significant $15 million commitment from The Private Office of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Faisal Al-Qassimi for Strategic Alliances and Policies. The commitment was officially presented at the Funders & Fundees Roundtable Dialogue in Dubai, an initiative designed to bring together funders and fundees to share experiences and insights that help shape their decisions in deploying and raising capital.
This backing marks a major milestone as the fund enters the market to raise additional capital, reinforcing investor confidence in Africa’s potential as a thriving investment hub.
Farouk Khailann, Founder and General Partner at StartBank Africa Fund, expressed his gratitude for the commitment, acknowledging the crucial role of resilience and strategic alliances in navigating the investment landscape. He emphasized that while Africa presents extraordinary opportunities, the greatest challenge isn’t a lack of capital or innovation but ensuring that the right individuals are at the helm of transformative ventures.
“Africa is an extraordinary investment destination, yet many game-changing ambitions have been derailed—not due to a lack of capital or ideas, but because of issues rooted in people’s character and mindset,” said Khailann. “The real challenge isn’t just about funding or innovation; it’s about ensuring that the right individuals are leading the charge. Our approach will prioritize identifying startup founders with the right character, not just compelling ideas.”

Khailann extended his sincere appreciation to the Group CEO of The Private Office, Amb. Dunston P, and Chief Investment Officer Pranav Jyoti, for their unwavering belief in Africa’s potential. He also thanked investment experts Olatokunbo Ige and Manya Pamnani for accepting the invitation to share insights on delivering the fund’s mandate and for their decision to support the initiative.
The $15 million commitment serves as a confidence booster as StartBank Africa Fund moves forward in its mission to drive economic transformation across the continent. With a focus on identifying and backing visionary entrepreneurs with strong leadership qualities, the fund aims to play a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s next generation of business leaders.
The Funders & Fundees Roundtable Dialogue in Dubai played a crucial role in fostering meaningful conversations between investors and entrepreneurs, reinforcing the need for character-driven leadership in Africa’s investment landscape.
