In a significant move to enhance road safety, Fujairah Police have unveiled a new traffic plan focused on improving pedestrian crossings across the emirate. This initiative aims to reduce accidents and ensure the safety of both pedestrians and motorists.
Key Features of the New Traffic Plan
The comprehensive strategy includes:
- Redesigning Hazardous Crossings: Identifying and restructuring the most dangerous pedestrian crossings to enhance safety.
- Improved Signage and Markings: Installing clearer road signs and markings to guide pedestrians and alert drivers.
- Smart Traffic Signals: Implementing intelligent traffic lights that adapt to real-time pedestrian and vehicle flow.
- Raised Crosswalks: Introducing elevated pedestrian paths to slow down vehicles and prioritize pedestrian movement.
These measures will be rolled out in phases, starting with high-traffic areas near schools, hospitals, and city centers.
Enforcement of Jaywalking Penalties
Under Article 89 of the Federal Traffic and Road Law, jaywalking—crossing roads from non-designated areas—is punishable by a fine of Dh400. Fujairah Police have reiterated their commitment to enforcing this regulation to deter unsafe pedestrian behavior.
Public Awareness Campaign
Complementing the infrastructural changes, a month-long campaign titled “Pedestrians Have the Right to Cross Safely” has been launched. This initiative aims to educate both drivers and pedestrians about road safety, emphasizing the importance of using designated crossings and adhering to traffic signals.

The new traffic plan reflects Fujairah’s proactive approach to road safety, aligning with the Ministry of Interior’s vision to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries.
