The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a new five-year multiple-entry tourist visa that is now accessible to citizens of all countries, including Pakistan. This change is expected to significantly boost travel and tourism, while also reinforcing the longstanding social and economic ties between the two nations.
Under this new policy, Pakistani citizens can apply for the five-year visa without the need for a local sponsor—something that previously posed challenges for frequent travelers. The visa allows multiple entries into the UAE, with each stay lasting up to 90 days, and a one-time extension of another 90 days possible without leaving the country.
To qualify, applicants must meet several requirements, including:
- A passport valid for at least six months
- A bank statement showing a minimum balance of $4,000 over the past six months
- Valid health insurance that covers the duration of stay in the UAE
- Proof of a return ticket or onward travel
Applications can be submitted online via the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship website or through approved service centers in the UAE.
This move comes after Pakistan implemented measures to curb the misuse of travel privileges, particularly addressing the issue of individuals traveling abroad with the intention of begging—an issue that had drawn criticism from Gulf countries in recent years. Pakistan’s government has started taking stricter actions against those involved, including passport confiscation and monetary penalties.
While the UAE never officially suspended tourist visas for Pakistanis, there had been a noticeable slowdown and increased scrutiny in recent months. The new visa policy, therefore, marks a positive shift and indicates renewed trust in Pakistan’s efforts to regulate outbound travel.
Millions of Pakistanis travel to the UAE annually, whether for tourism, business, or to visit family. This visa will allow for greater flexibility, especially for families who previously had to apply for short-term visas multiple times a year.
Looking ahead, if Pakistan continues to ensure responsible conduct of its citizens abroad, this positive momentum could encourage other countries in the Gulf region—such as Saudi Arabia—to also consider easing their visa policies for Pakistani nationals.
