Stealing the spotlight among the esteemed attendees was none other than Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, whose graceful waltz with First Lady Elke Büdenbender marked the opening of the ball with elegance and charm. Alongside them, luminaries from the federal government, including Labor Minister Hubertus Heil, Family Affairs Minister Lisa Paus, and Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, graced the dance floor with their presence, accompanied by their partners. Berlin Mayor Kai Wagner added to the evening’s allure with his own charismatic presence.

Since its inception in 1951, the Federal Press Ball has been meticulously organized by the Federal Press Conference (BPK), a prestigious association of journalists committed to upholding the principles of press freedom and democracy.

Notable among the evening’s highlights was the presentation of the Federal Press Conference Award to Deutschlandfunk journalist Nadine Lindner. Recognized for her insightful and analytical coverage of the transformation processes in East Germany and the rise of the AfD, Lindner’s contributions were lauded by organizers and attendees alike.

While the festivities unfolded in grandeur, notable absences were observed, with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Economics Minister Robert Habeck notably absent from the soirée.

In a celebration of journalistic excellence and the enduring values of democracy, the 71st Federal Press Ball illuminated the night with its unparalleled splendor and significance.
